What does Scotlands referendum mean for Europe?

While the FAZ ist looking into the economic risks to Scotland becoming independent http://www.faz.net/aktuell/wirtschaft/wirtschaftspolitik/risiken-des-referendums-abenteuer-schottische-unabhaengigkeit-13150354.html I think a balanced view should acknowledge that the decision is firstly about how the Scots want to organize themselves politically.  From a European perspective an independent Scotland could and would be part of the European Union. But also if the Scots vote for staying within Great Britain, it is a good practice that these issues are decided by the people themselves and this strengthens the civil power in Europe.
